Biography of Band
|Hail Travelers !! Don`t forget to breathe… because it`s important…and let these words present to you : UnexpecT... an original band rooted in the creative soils of Quebec. This metal laboratory of dreamy origins uses many musical ingredients which correspond to the human shifting mood.
In the boiling cauldron are mixed branches of black, death, power and melodic metal ; classical, operatic, medieval, ambient and circus music with a progressive edge and an occasional jazzy touch. With a crew composed of 7 different beings, the atmosphere sometimes takes a form of symphonic proportions by its sound diversity and arrangements. Their vocal performance range from an extreme to the other as they alternate between glorious choirs; inhuman screams of deep, high, mid-growl and delirious intensity; theatrical narrations; and clean/sober sections strewn with bewitching feminine singing pleasures.
Daydreamers and lunar people, the ideas traveling in their art are related to the imagination and the inherent creative power of all human beings, subjective faraway fantasy tales, trancelike sensorial exploration and subconscious realities. Soul-travel being one of the prime reason of music`s existence ; they give attention to the individuality and personality of each song, to better sail these multiple emotional states of ours ( melancholic, enraged, mysterious, festive, psychotic, perplexed, exultant, etc ). Different destinations breathing on the same vessel. A torrent of diverse feelings, UnexpecT is a band fitting as much for an energetic-frenzied-slam-in-a-sweaty-infernal-pit-oozing-impure-pagan-blood session than for a lazily-hypnose-an-elf-sitting-on-a-water-cloud-smelling-astral-fruits moment.
Anno 1996... Artagoth and Zircon play together as a trash metal act with young unknown musicians. By the end of the year, Syriak and a drummer called Ben joined the ranks, adding a different touch to the music. It is in this period that the band`s name became UnexpecT... creating a neologism of the original word. A deliberate spelling mistake hinting that nobody should always be bound by other`s imposed rules ( in that case, the guys who wrote the dictionary...). But the meaning of unexpected stayed the same as the band doesn`t want to be foreseeable. Finding restraining the fact of being only four and the lack of texture in the music, they conjured up two other childhood friends of Syriak and Lunorin : Merzenya and le bateleur ( the classical formation of these four bringing a new vision ). In the same era, an acquaintance named Elda joined the band for the crazy ride. They entered studio for the first time in summer 1998, a very short time after the integration of the others. Later on, after many explorations, Zircon, Elda and Merzenya quietly left UnexpecT in 2001. In this time of metamorphosis, Lunorin shape changed into ExoD and became the new keyboardist. A young devilish clown named ChaotH took the bass position and has been drinking madly as a cursed poet since then… a sweet dancing maiden with an aerial voice going under the name of Leïlindel came in and Landryx entered the UnexpecT cast to fill the martyr position : skin beater. The ranks are now complete to pass on to another altitude.
Since their origin, UnexpecT... released a full length album called "Utopia" which saw the day in 1999, critically acclaimed by many countries around the world (from Russia to Brazil by the way of the Philippines) with no distribution whatsoever and with internet as only support. Strengthened by their demonstrations in front of approximately 1500 people; opening for Satyricon and later on, Cryptopsy ; a new era is about to begin for these sound-painters with the release of a new surreal opus called "_We, Invaders" in November 2003. This MCD will be the glorious introduction to the following album currently in progress that will smash the dull boundaries of vile standards.
Be what you are or what you would be in other times or parallels...
