Biography of Band

A Thrash Heavy Metal act with strong Crossover influences, ACID DRINKERS began as a three piece in 1985 comprising guitarist Dariusz "Popcorn" Popowicz, vocalist / bassist Tomasz "Titus" Pukacki and drummer Chomik. Initial progress was halted when Titus was drafted for his national military service in 1987. Upon his return the band pulled in guitarist Robert "Litza" Friedrich and drummer Maciej "Slimak" Staorsta to cut the debut album 'Are You A Rebel?' ACID DRINKERS garnered an international profile courtesy of the Music For Nations Thrash offshoot label Under One Flag who would license their initial three albums, released domestically by Metal Mind, for Western consumption.
The oddly titled ‘Fishdick’ album witnessed the band delving deep into covers territory offering forth their renditions of PINK FLOYD’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall’, KISS’ ‘Deuce’, MOT?RHEAD’s ‘Ace Of Spades’, AC/DC’s ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’, BLACK SABBATH’s ‘N.I.B.’and DEEP PURPLE’s ‘Highway Star’.
ACID DRINKERS attempted a Black Metal pastiche with the less than serious ‘Infernal Connection’ album. Whilst still a high grade Thrash Metal album the record, lyrically the album took on the whole question of implied satanic messages in Metal music. The band would have a crack at covering the hoary anthem ‘Wild Thing’ by THE TROGGS on their 1996 effort ‘The State Of Mind Report’. ‘High Proof Cosmic Milk’ issued in March 1998, included a cover of CREEDANCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL’s staple ‘Proud Mary’.
Litza departed following issue of the live album 'Varran Strikes Back', his position being taken by Perla, previously a member of GUESS WHY. ACID DRINKERS 1999 album 'Amazing Atomic Activity' featured a spin off single, a cover of the ROLLING STONES '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'. The record also saw a digipack version featuring extra bonus tracks 'Cigarettes', 'The Last Lap' and 'Human Bazooka'. The following year's 'Broken Head' album would also be issued in a limited digipack format including exclusive tracks and a video clip.
Perla's last contribution to the band would be the 2002 'Acidofilia' album. He left the ranks in 2003 and was replaced by ex-ILLUSION player Tomka 'Lipy' Lipnickiego . This latest recruit decamped in 2004 and ACID DRINKERS drew in Olass from the band NONE as their new rhythm guitarist. However, the 2004 album 'Rock Is Not Enough' album still featured Lipa's guitar work.
The entire ACID DRINKERS catalogue would be re-issued as double packaged metal box CDs by Metal Mind Productions. Besides their activities with ACID DRINKERS various members also operate numerous side project acts such as ARMIA, ALBERT ROSENFIELD, KAZIK, FLAPJACK and the PARA WINO BAND.
