Biography of BandFormed in 2001 by bassist/vocalist Mortem, the Norwegian Doom Metal act DARK OBSCENITY completed their line-up with Цre on guitars and
Ripp on drums. Based on the experimentation with sounds like Traditional-Doom, Funeral-Doom, Industrial-Metal, Dark-Wave and some
Psychedelic-Rock influences, the style of DARK OBSCENITY brings a different perspective of the Doom-Metal.
In October 2002, DARK OBSCENITY released its very first demo, featuring 6 songs. In this first work the sound and style seems to be more
traditional Doom and very Epic.
Will be not until the first CD, “The Sorrow And The Dark Ruin” (2004), that the Funeral-Industrial-Psychedelic-Dark Wave influences will
show up in the style of the band. The listener will take a depressive and funeral journey through the 5 tracks of ultra-low tunes in slow
motion. Strongly influenced by bands like Cathedral, Godflesh or Pink Floyd, this CD is a lot more slow, experimental and apocalyptic than
the demo.
The good critics of “The Sorrow And The Dark Ruin” drive Mortem to start to write quickly new songs for the next release of DARK
OBSCENITY.
This 2nd CD was released under the title of "Through Funeral Whispers". The sound of the new songs follows in some way the line of “The
Sorrow And The Dark Ruin”, but more apocalyptic, desperate, mournful and psychedelic. |
