Biography of Band

KOPECKY is an instrumental progressive rock band consisting of three brothers: Joe (6 & 7-string guitars), Paul (acoustic & electric drums and percussion), and William (fretted & fretless basses, keyboards, and sitar). Since the band’s inception in 1997, their intense music is characterized by virtuoso musicianship, soaring melodies, and dark-tinged experimentation.

KOPECKY’s first three CDs have garnered international critical acclaim, having been glowingly reviewed by hundreds of magazines and webzines around the globe. Their debut CD KOPECKY was released in Europe in 1999 by Italy’s Mellow Records. Serpentine Kaleidoscope, their follow-up disc, was released worldwide by the English label Cyclops Records in 2000, and in 2001 M.A.C.E. Music (a label run by virtuoso guitarist Michael Angelo) released Orion, a live CD which was recorded in Baltimore at Orion Sound Studios as part of the Baltimore Progressive Rock Showcase Series.

KOPECKY has performed at several major progressive rock festivals: Progman Cometh 2002 (Seattle, WA), BajaProg 2002 (Mexicali, Mexico) with special guest keyboardist Par Lindh, and ProgDay 2001 (Chapel Hill, NC). In addition, KOPECKY members Joe and William performed at NEARFest 2000 (Bethlehem, PA) in the Sweden-based symphonic rock band Par Lindh Project. KOPECKY has also played as special support act for such progressive luminaries as Planet X, Spock’s Beard, Flower Kings, Thinking Plague, Gary Hoey, CAB, Mastermind, Uriah Heep, and Tunnels, and they have performed repeatedly on the Rock Stage at Summerfest, one of the USA’s largest music-oriented festivals. William Kopecky has played bass in national and international tours with Par Lindh Project, Michael Angelo, and Tempest.

KOPECKY’s new CD Sunset Gun was released worldwide by France’s Musea Records in November of 2003. The CD amply displays their signature sound, but the material is more complex than their previous work, and the performances are tighter and more engaging than ever.

The band is currently slated to compose music for the film Goodbye Tomorrow, which is being shot in their hometown of Racine, Wisconsin.
