Biography of Band

One of the very first death/black metal bands, with an enormous influence on the genre. Celtic Frost are currently writing and developing material for a new album in Zurich, Switzerland. This is the culmination of a process initially set in motion during the compilation of the official Celtic Frost re-issue CDs in late summer 1999. The re-issue project reflected the first time the various former members of the band worked together again after Celtic Frost's termination in early 1993, in spite of the fact that the band has had several major offers over the years to record or perform again. Some two years of behind-the-scene efforts have preceded the present activities, and work on the album started in earnest in late 2001.

The musicians involved in the current writing sessions are Martin Eric Ain (bass and vocals), Reed St.Mark (drums, percussion, and vocals), and Tom Gabriel Fischer (voice, guitars, and keyboard). This is the classic Celtic Frost line-up which was responsible for the albums 'To Mega Therion' and 'Into the Pandemonium'. As already in 1987, the band will be completed by a second guitarist as a permanent fourth member.

There has been an abundance of interest in the project from the music industry, and the band has held extensive talks about a new recording agreement in Germany, England, and North America. An official announcement regarding record company and album is expected later this spring. The album will contain largely new material, and it will not be identical with the shelved 'Under Apollyon's Sun' double CD of 1992/1993, although a small number of songs from that album are being considered for inclusion. The new album is also likely to feature Part III ('Winter') of the 'Requiem'. Part I ('Rex Irae') was originally released on 'Into the Pandemonium' in 1987
