Biography of Band

1991
Katatonia is brought together by the duo Anders 'Blakkheim' Nyström and Jonas 'Lord Seth' Renkse.

1992
'Jhva Elohim Meth' is recorded at Gorysound studio and released as a Demo cassette (300 blue, 100 transparent and 100 red cassettes printed. The first 30 copies comes with photos and lyrics).

Bassist Guillaume "Israphel" Le Huche joins the band.
The band plays their first gig in Bro, Sweden.
Katatonia enters into a one-album deal with No Fashion records.
'Jhva Elohim Meth... The Revival' is licensed to Vic records & released on MCD (the original Demo re-pressed as a MCD).

1993
The debut album 'Dance of December Souls' is recorded at Unisound studio and released by No Fashion records on CD.
The band plays gigs in Huddinge, Lidingö and Norrköping, Sweden.

1994
'Dance of December Souls' is licensed to Hellion records and released on LP (limited edition 500 copies).
Katatonia records the following tracks: 'Scarlet Heavens', 'Black Erotica' and 'Love Of The Swan' at Unisound studio.
Katatonia signs a one MCD deal with Avantgarde Music and records "For Funerals To Come" at Unisound studio.
The band plays gigs in Umeå, Karlstad and Sundbyberg, Sweden.

Fred Norrman joins the band as a second guitarist.

Katatonia disbands.

1995
Wrong Again Records releases a compilation entitled 'WAR Compilation Volume 1' featuring the tracks 'Black Erotica' and 'Love Of The Swan'.

'For Funerals To Come' is released by Avantarde Music as a MCD. (The first 100 copies in white printed logos/titles, the rest in purple).

'For Funerals To Come' is released by Avantarde Music as a picture disc (limited edition 1,500 copies).

1996
Katatonia reforms with Anders Nyström, Jonas Renkse and Fred Norrman as a trio.

Katatonia enters into a two album plus one MCD deal with Avantgarde Music.

The 2nd album, 'Brave Murder Day', is recorded at Unisound Studio and released by Avantgarde Music on CD. (Session member Mike Åkerfeldt does the vocals).

The track 'Scarlet Heavens' is released by Misantrophy Records on split 10" vinyl (Also featuring the band Primordial).

Katatonia tours Europe (with In The Woods & Voice of Destruction).

1997
'Brave Murder Day' is licensed to Century Media and released in the US together with 'For Funerals To Come' as bonus on CD.

Mikael Oretoft joins the band as a new bass player.

The MCD 'Sounds Of Decay' is recorded at Sunlight studio and released by Avantgarde Music on MCD (session member Mike Åkerfeldt does the vocals).

The MCD 'Saw You Drown' is recorded at Sunlight studio.
Katatonia plays a gig in Västerås, Sweden

1998
'Saw You Drown' is released by Avantgarde Music on MCD. (Limited to 1,500 hand numbered copies).

'Discouraged Ones' - the 3rd album is recorded at Sunlight Studio and released on Avantgarde Music on CD/Gatefolded LP.

'Discouraged Ones' is licensed to Century Media and released in the US on CD.

Katatonia signs a 5 album deal with Peaceville Records.

Mikael Oretoft leaves the band.

1999
The 4th album, 'Tonight's Decision' is recorded at Sunlight studio (session member Dan Swanö plays the drums).

Katatonia tours Scandinavia (as main support to Paradise Lost).

Daniel Liljekvist joins the band as a new drummer.
Mattias Norrman joins the band as a new bass player.

2000
'Tonight�s Decision' is released by Peaceville records on CD.

'Last Fair Deal Gone Down' - the 5th album is recorded at Sunlight Studio.

'Jhva Elohim Meth' is licensed to Hammerheart records & released on LP (blue vinyl, limited edition 500 copies).
The band plays festivals in Poland and USA.

2001
'Teargas' is released by Peaceville on CD EP.
'Last Fair Deal Gone Down' is released by Peaceville on CD.
